Shatavari
Shatavari is considered to be the most important Ayurvedic medicinal plant for women. In Ayurvedic medicine, the plant is valued and used primarily as a strengthening, revitalizing and constructive agent.
The word Shatavari literally means „the one who has hundreds of husbands“, but also „healer of a hundred diseases“. Today Shatavari is used to strengthen female reproductive power. In Ayurveda, this plant is even called the „queen of herbs“ because it strengthens love and devotion.
Shatavari (lat. Asparagus racemosus) grows in the tropical and subtropical regions of India. It is a prickly subshrub with many branches and a short, tuberous rootstock with multiple bulbous roots. The tubers are fleshy, whitish-brown and have a slightly sweet taste. Shatavari, on the other hand, has a slightly bitter aftertaste when processed into powder.
The roots of the Shatavari are full of nutrients and active ingredients. They contain the following phytonutrients: beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lutein-zeaxanthin. The root also contains vitamins K, E, C, thiamine, folate and niacin in their most natural forms. The minerals contained in this miracle herb are iron, calcium, manganese, zinc and selenium. Finally, the roots of this herb are an excellent source of fiber and protein.
