Gokshura
Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is a climber-plant with tiny yellow flowers that blooms all year-round. It is adapted to thrive in places with arid climates where few other plants survive. Like many hardy species, it is globally distributed throughout the region of North Africa and Europe. In each of the regions the plant has different ratio and amounts of active substances and also each world region gives it a different name: goat’s-head, bindii, cat’s-head, devil’s eyelashes, puncture vine, and tackweed.
The words “Go” and “Akshura” can be translated as cow’s hoof, because its fruit visually resembles cow hooves. A hardy invasive species (Tribulus terrestris), this small woody fruit is notoriously resistant because of its long sharp spines. The bur easily penetrates surfaces such as the rubber of bicycle tires and the mouths of grazing animals. Small wonder that the plant spreads and thrives.
European folk medicine prescribes it to relieve abdominal pain and colic. It is now scientifically proven that the saponins contained in its extract have a significant antispasmodic effect.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, Tribulus Terrestris strengthens and balances the yin and yang. It is said to help with depression, mood swings, listlessness, low libido and exhaustion.
Ingredients: alkaloids and phytosterols. Phytosterols have a chemical structure very similar to cholesterol. Through a specific mechanism, they reduce the absorption of cholesterol into the blood in the small intestine. The body draws on its own reserves and the cholesterol level falls.
